Millie's Local Holiday Gift Guide

Millie's Local Holiday Gift Guide

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This year, I am committed to shopping local as much as possible for all of my gifts. We have so many incredible shops throughout the city, that this goal should be nothing less than delightful! I have outlined a few of my favorite destinations for gifts – places I have shopped dozens and dozens of times over the years. Send me a photo of what you find, and happy shopping!

Gifts for Him – Todd Snyder on Armitage: A variety of items at different price points. They have more of a variety online, but I like to go in person because I like Armitage Corridor. The quality is excellent, and their wrapping is beautiful. The Armitage Corridor is a lovely area to visit as well.

Gifts for Her – Helen Ficalora: A jewelry store that offers a great selection at various price points. I love the necklaces. Some feature initials, diamonds, or are made of silver or gold. There’s a nice variety, and you can even have them personalized. I have linked the story behind the store.

Gifts for Kids – Timeless Toys Ltd. Has been around since 1993 and offers a wonderful selection of educational toys. Established by former shopkeepers Harry and Martha Burrows, it’s a great spot for unique gifts. I love how the toys are good to all ages, and offer stimulation to help with development.

Gifts for 4-Legged Friends – Tails in the City, located in the Gold Coast, is owned by a great team that’s been around for years. I’ve been shopping there for all five of my white labs, and my current lab, Midge, absolutely loves it. The quality is fantastic, and they offer beautiful presentation and gift wrapping. I’ve had great success buying gifts and even dressing my dog—those knit scarves with pom-poms are adorable! You can even get your dog a Barkin Bag!

Gifts the Whole Family Can Enjoy – Material Possessions has been one of my go-to spots for years. They used to be in the city but are now located in Winnetka. This women-owned business carries a range of price points, and the staff, who have been there for years, are wonderful. They offer seasonal gifts and decorations, and this is where I get my beautiful closing gifts, like their lovely serving plates. I get the Jungle King serving plate. The owner, Peggy, has owned it since 1977. They recently added a partner, Jessica McDermott
