Expert predictions of 2025 interior design trends

Do you keep up with the Pantone Color of the Year? While it may be a little overly prescriptive to call out just one color, Mocha Mousse, the 2025 Color of the Year, does already look like a great representation of many of the interior design trends we’re already seeing shape up!

I recently chatted with my friend Jill Maremont, who is the CEO and Principal at Inspiration Station Collective (ISc), and Executive Director of River North Design District (RNDD), and if you want to know about upcoming design trends, then she is the exact right person!

RNDD was founded in 2013 as a community of River North design professionals. As the Executive Director, Jill works with many of the city’s top designers, who also shared their trend predictions for the year.

Mocha Mousse will be in good company with other warm earth tones this year, with a huge emphasis on warm browns tones along with, brick, stone, olive green, jewel tones, sapphire blue, mossy greens – anything that leans warm and natural.

On the other end of the spectrum, highly saturated colors like cobalt blue and emerald green are having a huge moment. According to Sarah Jacquelyn Interiors, pairing neutral tones with the more vibrant not only creates balance, but also adds personality and drama to spaces.

Color Drenching

Whereas for many years we focused on one color accent wall, trends now are leaning toward color drenching, which takes that idea several steps further to include all of the trim, doors, molding, cabinetry, and walls, in a room painted one color. JC Licht  says that color drenching in the trending color palettes of rich reds and earthy browns and greens is one way to redefine elegance for 2025.

Texture is the name of the game when it comes to stone. Large-scale veining is still very popular, but now we are seeing it paired with texture and design such as fluting, or organic wave patterns. Jill recommends considering Quartzite, for its effortless functionality and sustainability.

Organic Wall Coverings
Nature-inspired wall coverings will be huge. Think small-scale flowery motifs, like those made famous by arts and crafts designer, William Morris.
